Located at London’s BFI, the high profile event featured talented people behind the best 3D films and television programmes of the past year. A series of exclusive screenings and in-depth Q & A’s with some of the industry’s leading practitioners lined-up an exciting event including the first 3D Producer’s Lab.
SGO’s Geoff Mills was involved in a compelling discussion titled “3D Post — Quicker, Smarter, Easier” with Andy Shelley (ONSIGHT), David Wigram working on Dr Who using Mistika and hosted by Jonathan Tustain where they discussed how post production has adapted and improved at a remarkable rate to make 3D more streamlined for productions. The session introduced some of the leaders in 3D post and explains how workflows and technologies have evolved to make the process better than ever.SGO customer Park Road’s Phil Oatley and Meetal Gokhul travelled from New Zealand to discuss some of the insights and challenges of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This exceptional film is the world’s first Digital Cinema Release in Stereo 3D 48 high frame rate and is a pioneering adventure.
A Mistika suite was also in The Atrium for visitors to view live demonstrations followed by Q&A’s. SGO’s Mistika Application Specialist Sam Sheppard was on hand to explain how Mistika remains at the forefront of leading technology and innovation and why it has been adopted by leading industry professionals across the world for both broadcast and film.
Academy Award Winning Director Ang Lee joined the summit for an exclusive interview live from New York, shared with the audience his experiences in overcoming technical and creative challenges on the awe-inspiring ‘Life of Pi’ and his post-Oscar thoughts for the future. The high-profile panel of speakers also included famous names such as Sir David Attenborough, Declan Lowney (director of Mr Stink), Phil McNally from Dreamworks, Chris Parks (Vision 3), Steve Schklair (3Ality), John Cassy (Sky 3D) and many other well-respected figures such as SGO’s Director of Global Sales and Operations Geoff Mills, Park Road’s Head of Technology Phil Oatley and Lead Stereoscopic Artist Meetal Gokhul, alongside many other speakers.
