Mistika is used by BTV to record Shakespeare Season at the Globe
“Mistika’s real-time non linear grading toolset managed the three thousand plus shots per film effortlessly, enabling me to get the look the directors wanted.” Ross Copeland, Editor, BTV
SGO is delighted to reveal that one of its UK clients, BTV, has recently completed the recording of three Shakespearian plays filmed at the world famous Globe Theatre for Opus Arte, the Royal Opera House’s production and distribution company, using Mistika.
Romeo & Juliet, As You Like It and Love’s Labour’s Lost were recorded at the prestigious venue in September and October this year. They are currently being edited and graded at BTV in their Mistika theatre for Digital Cinema, TV, DVD and Blu-ray release. BTV, one of the UK’s top ten regional facilities houses invested in a Mistika system earlier this year and completed the installation of a professional cinema environment with DCI Compliant Projectors and Screen on their premises. This has enabled them to offer high-end grading and compositing solutions for both 2D and 3D as well as the full stereoscopic 3D service using Mistika from consultancy, filming and post production right through to delivery.
Mistika Artist and Editor at BTV, Ross Copeland added: “The Globe recordings were a unique challenge due to being live performances filmed at different times of the day in the open air venue. Mistika’s real-time non linear grading toolset managed the three thousand plus shots per film effortlessly, enabling me to get the look the directors wanted.“
Working with Outside Broadcast company Bow Tie TV, BTV facilitated the shoots using Sony HD cameras and over 30 microphones during live performances. BTV worked closely with the Globe’s technical team to ensure the heritage of the venue and audience were unaffected by the recordings.
BTV’s sister company, Electric Sky have secured the TV distribution rights for the plays as part of their rapidly expanding performance catalogue.
