NAB a triumph for SGO

With ever increasing demand for future-ready post production solutions, SGO reported a highly successful outcome at NAB. Located in the South Hall, the popular Mistika post production systems and Mamba FX compositing software were showcased at SGO’s booth, attracting a lot of visitors, among them content creators, post facilities and widely known broadcasters. SGO’s progressive creativity and efficiency in colour grading and finishing received positive feedback resulting in new relationships, collaborations and sales.

SGO’s forward-looking quantum-leap development leads in giant strides. One of the many breathtaking highlights which amazed colourists in engaging demonstrations included SGO’s new Spatial Isolation Toolset for Mistika 8.2. It provides colourists with a number of methods to isolate individual objects within a scene, so that they can be graded separately, for example based on their depth in the scene or by metadata provided by CGI animation systems. The new features allow both the colour and the directional lighting of CGI objects to be fine-tuned in real time and in context. Find out more and watch the demos at www.sgo.es/2014/04/sgo-discloses-unique-colour-grading-tools/

Mistika, SGO’s colour grading and finishing platform, to support Dolby® Vision™

SGO today announced that its extremely powerful flagship colour grading and finishing platform, Mistika, now supports Dolby® Vision™ technology, enabling the display of high dynamic range (HDR) images with wider colour gamut capabilities. SGO, working in close collaboration with Dolby, will look to make the Dolby Vision workflow capabilities available in Mistika from version 8.2, which was previewed at NAB and is due for release shortly after IBC 2014.
Dolby Vision helps content creators and television manufacturers deliver true-to-life brightness, colours and contrast by augmenting the fidelity of Ultra HD (UHD) and HD video signals for over-the-top (OTT) online streaming, broadcast and gaming applications.
Mistika has inherently supported full HDR workflows for some time now, and is therefore ideally positioned to enable its users to take full advantage of this technological step-change.

SGO’s CEO Miguel Angel Doncel confirmed, “Our goal at SGO is to look forward and analyse which upcoming technologies will best enable our customers to grow their businesses. We then aim to bring complete workflows incorporating those technologies to market first, so that our customers have the upper hand over their competitors.”

“Creative teams using SGO’s Mistika can embrace the full gamut of colours, peak brightness and local contrast available with Dolby Vision,” said Roland Vlaicu, Senior Director, Broadcast Imaging, Dolby Laboratories. “Films and TV shows will look more like the real world, and viewers will notice details that might have previously gone unseen.”

Mistikia Version 8.2

Mistikia Version 8.2

SGO’s Director of Global Sales and Operations Geoff Mills affirmed, “Our Company philosophy to adopt new technological advances in image capture, quality and display formats is what makes SGO’s enthusiastic and proactive approach to post production and broadcasting so unique. All the necessary underlying requirements are already in place, guaranteeing our customers a future-proof return in their investment. Dolby Vision delivers vivid imagery, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be one of the first in our industry to make this technology a reality.”

ABOUT DOLBY VISION
Dolby Vision helps content creators and television manufacturers deliver true-to-life brightness, colours and contrast by augmenting the fidelity of Ultra HD (UHD) and HD video signals for over-the-top (OTT) online streaming, broadcast and gaming applications.
Even though most TV shows and movies are recorded using camera technology that captures the colours and brightness of real life, much of that richness is lost by the time consumers get to watch. That’s because current TV and cinema colour-grading standards are based on the limitations of old technologies and require that the original video content be altered—dramatically reducing the range of colours, brightness and contrast—before it can be reproduced for transmission and playback. Dolby Vision changes that, giving creative teams the freedom to use the full gamut of colours, peak brightness and local contrast, with the confidence that those will be reproduced faithfully on televisions that feature Dolby Vision.
The net result is a richer and more realistic viewing experience that makes it easier for viewers to discern details that might previously have gone unnoticed in an image, regardless of screen size or viewing distance.
