Ark Immersive delivers a powerful awareness experience through 360º immersion with Mistika VR

The Long Walk Home is a short, immersive film that follows a woman’s journey back home after a night out, told from her first-person perspective. The film was brought to life in post-production using the advanced capabilities of Mistika VR.

Ark Immersive, an award-winning immersive production company and platform, teamed up with Lime Pictures and long-running UK TV soap Hollyoaks to recreate the emotions and experiences of women feeling unsafe when walking home at night, offering audiences a realistic sense of vulnerability through immersion.

By presenting a woman’s perspective of her journey home after a night out, the film brings attention to the very real feelings of unease and vulnerability that many women experience. This first-person immersive experience fosters empathy, allowing viewers to step into the shoes of the protagonist and truly understand her emotions and challenges.

Mistika VR as a key post solution

For Ark Immersive, the post-production process with Mistika VR was very smooth as they were already familiar with the industry’s favorite tool.

“For this project, there was a need to be agile and Mistika VR saved us a substantial amount of time. We have used the software for years and understand how to fully leverage its potential. The autocalibrate feature helped us ensure floors were levelled, and colours were consistent, eliminating any visual disparities. This guaranteed us to maintain our high-quality standards,” said Matt Littler, Director of Ark Immersive.

Relying on the stabilization feature

The team utilized Mistika VR’s one-click stabilization feature to tackle several challenges. “Many of our shots were filmed outdoors using a robotic dolly, which made stabilization crucial for the project. The last thing we wanted was for the audience to feel nauseous or disoriented. Mistika VR allowed us to stabilize the footage before moving on to the final grading,” explained Matt Littler.

Nighttime exteriors posed another challenge for Ark Immersive, which again they addressed with Mistika VR. “Some frames were extremely dark, which in immersive production typically leads to noise. However, we managed to achieve an exceptional result that looked completely realistic,” he added.

Producing 360º media with authentic value

For this project, the team created a powerful experience that stayed true to Ark’s cinematic vision. “Our goal was to ensure nothing would break the immersion, so we paid great attention to every detail – from scriptwriting to location planning,” explained Matt.

The team also wanted to give viewers complete control. “I have always believed that when immersive storytelling is done right, it can foster real emotional connections. Using a first-person perspective allowed viewers to experience the characters’ emotions on a much deeper level,” concluded Matt.
