In partnership with Boris FX, SGO confirms integration of the popular titling and motion graphics plug-in, Boris Graffiti, with Mamba FX V2.5 for Windows. Mac and Linux are to follow suit.

Japan’s well-established and reputable post facility Tokyo Sound Production (TSP) made the recent forward-thinking move by upgrading to SGO’s Mistika post production system to boost their broadcast projects.

Australian Cinematographer & Scientist Pawel Achtel creates HFR project for the Giant Screen using Mistika
SGO’s Asia Pacific Reseller Partner, Mojo Media Solutions, has been working closely with Australian cinematographer and scientist Pawel Achtel on his high frame-rate stereoscopic 3D project Sea Of Love. Mistika was used for all the colour grading and stereoscopic adjustments.
The incredible project which has been made for the Giant Screen, is being shot at 5K using RED Epic® cameras which has been modified by the installation of Achtel’s custom designed TrueBlue™ optical filter, which virtually removes all magenta contamination in the blue spectra.
Filming under water produces many blue colours in the imagery which on an unmodified RED® camera tends to look magenta. This is because the red photo-sites on the camera sensor are not only sensitive to red light, they are also sensitive to blue light. By replacing the factory supplied OLPF with Achtel’s TrueBlue™ OLPF, the colour separation in the raw camera files is significantly improved. TrueBlue is available now for RED Epic® and RED Dragon® cameras.
In addition, Mojo Media Solutions will also be showcasing SGO’s Mistika at SMPTE15 in Sydney from 14 – 17th July at Booth # D4 where customers will be able to review sample footage from this spectacular project. The SMPTE15 exhibition takes place at the Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park. SGO’s rapid global expansion continues with the recent appointment of technical specialist Black Fiber as another official support partner in Mexico for the Mistika finishing and colour grading post production system and Mamba FX compositing software.
Founded by the initiative of entrepreneurs, Juan Carlos Ertze and Arturo Marín, Black Fiber provides post production solutions integration and support. The company will assist SGO in the region with Mistika training and certification programmes, introductory student seminars as well as provide a local sales and support hotline.

It’s an NAB Wrap – SGO is Absolutely Fabulous in Las Vegas!
SGO unfolded another enthralling chapter at NAB 2015 as it continues to move in an upward direction away from an increasingly uniform market. SGO presented the latest creative and performance-enhancing developments for the Mistika colour grading and finishing platform, as well as new features for the popular node-based compositor Mamba FX.
Visitors from broadcasters, post facilities and film studios could be seen eyeing out the very latest SGO technology. Positive comments that were heard at the SGO booth ranged from bold exclamations – “Mistika saved the day”, to more composed compliments like – “The Industry has handed SGO the Baton”, to direct statements “We must get a Mistika for our studio!” and “Coming to the SGO Booth has truly been the highlight of my NAB experience.”
SGO announced an uprated product line-up at the show where all systems are resolution-independent, giving all users the ability to work in 4K. Moreover, its commercially creative new “Additional Mistika User Log-in” programme enables customers to add further systems without the need to buy extra licenses, making the ownership of multiple Mistika systems extremely affordable without compromising or devaluing SGO technology in the market. This exclusive approach provides an alternative way for customers to increase their profits while maintaining their competitive edge.
With High Dynamic Range being the hot topic of the show, SGO’s customers are once again the first to embrace new HDR opportunities. On the booth, Mistika was shown creatively manipulating high resolution and HDR material in real time, using the newly integrated Mistika Precision Panel, especially developed for finishing, as well as colour grading.
Mistika also played a key role in Canon’s HDR Theatre at NAB where an end-to-end HDR 4K “Glass to Glass” work-flow was demonstrated – image capture by Canon cameras, HDR grade in Mistika and displayed on a Canon 2000 NIT monitor. Striking footage from “Trick Shot” was used, shot by Gale Tattersall ASC with ACES and HDR supervision by Curtis Clark ASC. The film was originally post produced by Mistika customer FotoKem with grading by John Daro. “The Canon HDR Suite was a great showcase for technology that supported this new and potentially industry changing technology of HDR, it was a must go to location at NAB and a very unique space to demonstrate a new color process.” Colin Ritchie, CEO of Aarmadillo Inc. who was responsible for implementing the Mistika workflow on Canon’s booth commented.

The spellbinding visual account of how flying animals evolved into the familiar species we see today, became a reality in stunning documentary series David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies, produced by Atlantic Productions with the help of SGO’s powerful and cutting-edge Mistika technology at ONSIGHT. As well as winning a 2014 BAFTA, the landmark series was recently nominated for a British Academy Television Craft Award for Special, Visual & Graphic Effects. The results are announced at the ceremony in London on Sunday 26 April.
The award-winning post division at ONSIGHT used Mistika once again on its seventh Attenborough project for Colossus Productions, which depicted complex flight skills with creative ingenuity. Formats used included 4K, HD, 3D and 2D including a bespoke 4K workflow design built by the ONSIGHT Post division. After also providing R&D and camera solutions for the project, the facility worked with massive amounts of data amounting to approximately 50 terrabytes and a variety of camera formats such as RED Epic. In post, ONSIGHT provided plate preparations, DI, VFX, conform, QC, mastering and deliverables in 3D and 2D across its numerous high-tech suites at its London facility. This included the ability to screen 4K masters, combining 5K live action with 4K VFX and CGI.

ONSIGHT’s Senior Colourist Andy Lee benefited from Mistika’s real-time speed and flexibility which enabled him to freely alternate between the colour and depth grades, as well as the VFX conform. Furthermore, Mistika’s wide spectrum of grading toolsets equipped him with a vivid and colourful array to enhance the remarkable features of winged creatures ranging from birds to butterflies, with eye-catching colour. In addition, he graded subtle tones to convey the changing landscapes filmed in places such as Ecuador to the grey palettes of Scottish skies.
Andy Lee has graded many of the award-winning Attenborough projects from Atlantic and Colossus Productions. He said, “Mistika allows me to work with ease across multiple formats, frame sizes and deliverables. David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies is an example of one of our extensive and innovative projects in 3D and 2D, which requires that level of flexibility, benefiting us and the production team.” VFX Stereo Artist Miguel Camaño Riveiro supported the project with stereo corrections and compositing work.
