SGO to Showcase Mistika’s Real-time Capabilities with Mamba FX at BIRTV

20 August 2014, Beijing, China – Mistika and Mamba FX will be showcased at the SGO Booth 8B09 at BIRTV held at the CIEC in Beijing from 27 – 30 August. Powerfully different, Mistika is recognised as the most potent finishing and grading system for projects at any resolution and frame rate, including 4K at 60P and stereoscopic 3D. Mistika’s diverse and versatile creative toolset is not restricted to 4K and is already able to provide for 8K post production pipelines. SGO will preview the new Mistika version 8.2 software at BIRTV which includes many new and unique features such as their in-context node based compositing capability and the incredible Spatial Isolation Toolset, which was unveiled for the first time at NAB in April this year.

Customers visiting the SGO booth 8B09 will witness Mistika’s stunning performance with mixed resolution raw camera files on the same timeline in real-time. Also on show will be Mistika’s next-generation colour finishing functionalities supporting the Precision Grading Panels. Other new features include support for Dolby Vision, improved ACES workflows, enhanced AAF support, Dolby Atmos DCP generation and support for an even wider range of image codecs such as Canon’s RMF, Sony’s XAVC and ProRes 4:4:4:4. To meet high customer demand for the new toolset, Mistika 8.2 will also be launched this August, prior to IBC, with a preview of the next version 8.4 being demonstrated at IBC.

Redefining VFX, Mamba FX provides unlimited compositing layers in a resolution-free, node-based environment, running on Windows, Linux and now also on Mac. Main headlines for Mamba FX 2.0 include the Layer Route Effect for working with multi-layer EXR files; a “Spatial Isolation Keyer” interfacing with metadata and the high-speed, “point cloud” shape tracker, enabling compositors to speedily track 2D roto-shapes to shots.

The Post Perspective session at 15:00 on Thursday 5th June, chaired by Will Strauss as part of the HD Evolved 4K and Beyond seminars, will take place in the David Lean Room and covers Ultra High Definition (UHD) and vital information for anyone working in 4K. A series of exclusive screenings and in-depth Q & A’s with some of the industry’s leading practitioners lined-up an exciting event including the first 3D Producer’s Lab.

SGO’s Geoff Mills was involved in a compelling discussion titled “3D Post — Quicker, Smarter, Easier” with Andy Shelley (ONSIGHT), David Wigram working on Dr Who using Mistika and hosted by Jonathan Tustain where they discussed how post production has adapted and improved at a remarkable rate to make 3D more streamlined for productions. The session introduced some of the leaders in 3D post and explains how workflows and technologies have evolved to make the process better than ever.

SGO customer Park Road’s Phil Oatley and Meetal Gokhul travelled from New Zealand to discuss some of the insights and challenges of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This exceptional film is the world’s first Digital Cinema Release in Stereo 3D 48 high frame rate and is a pioneering adventure.

A Mistika suite was also in The Atrium for visitors to view live demonstrations followed by Q&A’s. SGO’s Mistika Application Specialist Sam Sheppard was on hand to explain how Mistika remains at the forefront of leading technology and innovation and why it has been adopted by leading industry professionals across the world for both broadcast and film.

Academy Award Winning Director Ang Lee joined the summit for an exclusive interview live from New York, shared with the audience his experiences in overcoming technical and creative challenges on the awe-inspiring ‘Life of Pi’ and his post-Oscar thoughts for the future. BSkyB wins ‘Best 3D TV Live Event of the Year’ for The Isle of Wight Festival 2012, posted in Mistika at Preditors

London, 18 January 2013 – BSKyB won the “2012 International 3D Society Lumiere ™ Award-Europe for outstanding “Live 3D TV Event” for The Isle of Wight Festival programme. The project was produced by Blink TV for BSkyB and directed by Marcus Viner.

Online Stereographer, Ross Copeland was responsible for the 3D geometry alignment, depth grade and finishing of the two 90-minute highlight films in record time, over just seven days, using Mistika at Preditors. Reg and Ross established a very fast workflow to transfer the finished 3D edit to Mistika where all the parts and graphics conformed instantly.
