SGO further enhances performance of its Mistika and Mamba FX post-production products with support of the new NVIDIA Quadro M6000 24GB GPU to handle extremely large, complex files for feature film and broadcast projects.
It’s an NAB Wrap – SGO is Absolutely Fabulous in Las Vegas!
SGO unfolded another enthralling chapter at NAB 2015 as it continues to move in an upward direction away from an increasingly uniform market. SGO presented the latest creative and performance-enhancing developments for the Mistika colour grading and finishing platform, as well as new features for the popular node-based compositor Mamba FX.
Visitors from broadcasters, post facilities and film studios could be seen eyeing out the very latest SGO technology. Positive comments that were heard at the SGO booth ranged from bold exclamations – “Mistika saved the day”, to more composed compliments like – “The Industry has handed SGO the Baton”, to direct statements “We must get a Mistika for our studio!” and “Coming to the SGO Booth has truly been the highlight of my NAB experience.”
SGO announced an uprated product line-up at the show where all systems are resolution-independent, giving all users the ability to work in 4K. Moreover, its commercially creative new “Additional Mistika User Log-in” programme enables customers to add further systems without the need to buy extra licenses, making the ownership of multiple Mistika systems extremely affordable without compromising or devaluing SGO technology in the market. This exclusive approach provides an alternative way for customers to increase their profits while maintaining their competitive edge.
With High Dynamic Range being the hot topic of the show, SGO’s customers are once again the first to embrace new HDR opportunities. On the booth, Mistika was shown creatively manipulating high resolution and HDR material in real time, using the newly integrated Mistika Precision Panel, especially developed for finishing, as well as colour grading.
Mistika also played a key role in Canon’s HDR Theatre at NAB where an end-to-end HDR 4K “Glass to Glass” work-flow was demonstrated – image capture by Canon cameras, HDR grade in Mistika and displayed on a Canon 2000 NIT monitor. Striking footage from “Trick Shot” was used, shot by Gale Tattersall ASC with ACES and HDR supervision by Curtis Clark ASC. The film was originally post produced by Mistika customer FotoKem with grading by John Daro. “The Canon HDR Suite was a great showcase for technology that supported this new and potentially industry changing technology of HDR, it was a must go to location at NAB and a very unique space to demonstrate a new color process.” Colin Ritchie, CEO of Aarmadillo Inc. who was responsible for implementing the Mistika workflow on Canon’s booth commented.
SGO is among the first manufacturers at NAB to publicly announce the use of the NVIDIA® Quadro® M6000 to elevate performance of Mistika and Mamba FX. “As the industry moves to higher resolutions and high dynamic range, the performance demands on finishing and color grading systems increase dramatically”, said Greg Estes, VP Enterprise Marketing, NVIDIA. “SGO is among the first in the world to offer our flagship Quadro M6000 as part of their product line up, providing artists with optimal performance, color accuracy and enterprise-grade reliability.”
Geoff Mills, Director of Global Sales & Operations states, “With the market’s eager scrutiny for incomparable toolsets that make artists stand out from the crowd, SGO provides a supremely unique differentiator. What we are now very excited about is how HDR is coming towards the industry like a train. SGO always has an eye on what is coming next and at the same time, making sure that we are prepared, and staying ahead of the game to the benefit of our much valued customers.”
It was yet another memorable and successful show for SGO.
CEO Miguel Angel Doncel concludes, “The feedback we received about Mistika and Mamba FX has been terrific. We are honoured to be able to provide future-proof cutting-edge technology to those creative companies that drive our industry forward.”
SGO elevates performance of its Mistika and Mamba FX post production products with support for the new NVIDIA® Quadro® M6000 graphics processing unit. This latest GPU is built on NVIDIA’s Maxwell architecture and provides increased performance, which allows SGO’s customers to work even more efficiently with ever-more demanding projects.
SGO’s Mistika post production system, which leverages NVIDIA CUDA programming and is exclusively accelerated by NVIDIA GPUs, is already the envy of competitors because of the real-time creative experience it provides users. Even at 4K and beyond, Mistika allows artists to compose their images without lengthy and distracting breaks for rendering. Adding the new Quadro M6000 extends Mistika’s real-time performance further to include more complicated processes to ensure unrestricted creativity. Mistika can also make use of multiple internal GPU cards, as well as harness the power of remote GPU and CPU processing power, for almost limitless scalability.
“NVIDIA’s continual developments help SGO to provide more creative and more efficient solutions for our customers, letting them stand out from their competitors by offering better, faster and more flexible and powerful services to their clients,” says SGO CEO Miguel Angel Doncel.
“The Quadro M6000 is the world’s most powerful pro graphics card. With 12 GB of memory and 7 teraflops of peak single-precision performance, it’s on an average 30 percent faster than the previous generation across a range of applications,” explains Greg Estes, VP Enterprise Marketing and GM of Media & Entertainment at NVIDIA. “Coupled with SGO’s highly optimised programming and wide-ranging creative tools, this empowers SGO Mistika to provide incredible performance for colour, visual effects and project finishing.”
The Quadro M6000 is supported by both Mistika and Mamba FX. Mistika seamlessly combines colour grading, conforming, online editing and visual effects to provide the complete post production platform. Mamba FX is SGO’s dedicated compositing software, featuring infinite layer compositing, roto-scoping, optical flow tools, OFX support, paint, tracking and much more. Mamba FX is available for free trial from www.sgo.es/mamba-fx.
SGO accelerates its high-end post production products with the NVIDIA Quadro K5200. This new graphics board provides significantly higher performance and greater data handling capability than the previous generation Quadro, for SGO’s Mamba FX and Mistika products, which are utilised in the world’s biggest film, television and commercial productions.
“The NVIDIA Quadro K5200 is the perfect partner for SGO’s Mamba FX. With phenomenal performance and 8GB of on-board memory, visual effects compositors can work at even higher resolutions, bit depths and frame rates with ever more complex composites, while maintaining industry-leading throughput,” says SGO’s CEO, Miguel Angel Doncel.
SGO’s Mamba FX is a high performance but very low cost visual effects compositing suite. It costs from just 239 Euros and is available for free trial. It can be downloaded from the SGO shop or from www.MambaTutorials.com, where Mamba FX’s extensive compositing tools are explained in a library of online video tutorials.
“Our new Quadro line-up is at the center of visual computing workflows,” says Greg Estes, VP Enterprise Marketing and GM of Media & Entertainment at NVIDIA. “SGO’s highly optimised programming with NVIDIA’s advanced graphics processing have enabled SGO Mistika and Mamba FX to provide ground-breaking real-time post production environments for 4K, Stereo 3D and high-frame rate productions.”

Mistika also played a major role in David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive (3D) 4K film which received a BAFTA TV Award this year.
NVIDIA Quadro K5200 graphics boards will be supported in Mistika’s V8.4 software and Mamba FX’s version 2.0, showcased this month at IBC at the SGO Booth A11, Hall 6, at The RAI in Amsterdam.
